The Happy Kids Backpack Program (HKBP) is a cooperative venture between the School District of New Richmond, Empty Bowls, and Five Loaves Food Shelf.  The school accepts HKBP applications from families in the district (Head Start through 12th grade).  Once the family turns in their application, a backpack is sent home each weekend during the school year.   The empty packs are returned to school, and refilled for the next week.  We are presently serving about 80 families per week.

How It Works:

A bag, filled with staple food items such as cereal, canned goods, peanut butter, pasta, and/or vouchers for free food items from participating local grocers. The vouchers will be for meat, fresh produce, bread and/or milk on a regular basis. The bags and/or vouchers can be picked up by your school age child on Friday afternoons in the school health office. The backpack will be sent home sealed to ensure that the food arrives home unopened.
